The guidance is in two parts. The first contains general information
for people who have responsibility for the day-to-day operations where
UV tanning facilities are available and the second contains specific advice
for customers. The information for customers takes account of current expert
medical opinion and has been endorsed by the Department of Health as part
of the Health of the Nation initiative.

Public Health Minister Tessa Jowell will ask the sunbed industry to
clampdown on young people using their equipment.
Ms Jowell's move is part of a campaign that she is launching on

An advisory group reviewing data on substances proposed for the federal governments Report on Carcinogens, Ninth Edition, today recommended that ultraviolet light, whether from sunlight or an artificial source such as tanning booths and tanning beds, be listed as "known to be a human carcinogen."
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) share responsibilities in the regulation of sunlamps and tanning devices. The FDA enforces regulations that deal with labels on the devices; the FTC investigates false, misleading, and deceptive advertising claims about the devices.
