Sunbed operator's claims pale under ACCC scrutiny

Around 600 solarium operators in Australia have been told to ensure customers are informed about the risks of sunbed tanning.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has written to the operators after seeing brochures distributed by Ergoline, which sells sunbeds to beauty salons and tanning studios.

The ACCC claims the brochures contained misleading suggestions that sunbed use was safe.

Ergoline has agreed to place ads in major newspapers across the country, correcting the brochures and warning people of the risks of using sunbeds.
